MITRE is currently seeking a Systems Engineer to support data analysis work that we are performing for the FAA in a number of areas. As a system engineer in MITRE’s Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD) Navigation and Unmanned Aircraft Systems department, you will work with technical team members as well as working directly with the FAA to create top quality solutions that address critical business needs. You will be responsible for analysis and concept development in support of integrating unmanned aircraft into the national airspace system.

Candidate will support the FAA by performing engineering related to integration of unmanned aircraft into the air traffic system while using a broad spectrum of tools and technologies to meet both internal analysis and external client requirements. Expect a team environment with self-motivated, highly trained professionals.

Key Functions include:

  • Developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, data analytics, data requirements and other strategies that optimize data efficiency and quality

  • Acquiring, processing, and managing data from primary, secondary, and tertiary data sources to identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets

  • Locating and defining new organizational, process improvement, and information technology opportunities

Qualifications

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Strong analytical capabilities and strong problem solving ability.

  • Strong mathematical skills.

  • Optional background in the field of aviation: pilot, air force, air traffic control experience, aviation systems, etc.

  • Optional JVM-based languages (Java EE, Scala, Clojure)

o Familiar with class based architectures.

o Experience with Eclipse™, Apache Maven™, and software repositories a plus.

  • Familiar with data management and enterprise information management concepts and application.
