MITRE’s Center for Advanced Aviation System (CAASD) is currently seeking an aviation systems engineer who will support the FAA by developing concepts, analyzing operations, and being an aviation industry liaison during the development and implementation of the FAA’s Next-Generation Air Traffic Management System (NextGen). The specific focus area is for Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) and Aviation Safety as applied to Instrument Flight Procedures. Key Functions include:
Develop operational concepts for advanced navigation
Assist in the analysis of FAA instrument flight procedure design criteria
Be a thought leader for integrating applications with various FAA enterprise systems and data sources
Attend Industry forums and inform participants of progress related to NextGen PBN activities
Analyze operational data and inform FAA decisions on proposed safety or flight procedure standards and criteria
Key Skills and Experience:
Background in the field of aviation: private or commercial pilot, air traffic control experience, aviation or avionics systems, etc.
Subject matter expertise, requiring experience in commercial aviation operations as a pilot, air traffic management specialist, or instrument flight procedure designer
Knowledge of U.S. Standard for Terminal Instrument Procedures (TERPS) and/or ICAO Procedures for Air Navigation Services – Aircraft Operations (PANS-OPS)
