We are seeking a Portfolio Director for Transportation who will be responsible foraccelerating safe and secure integration ofautonomous vehicles into our nation’s infrastructure. The individual will engage with government and private sector stakeholders to develop and embrace transportation innovations, with a focus on application of analytics and research to illuminate safety issues and enable autonomous systemsat the speed of industry. This individual will have the opportunity to truly be part of solving the transportation challenges of the 21stCentury.Coordination of technological advances across agencies focused on transportation to provide innovation, efficiencies, economic synergy, safety prioritization, and a platform for harnessing research and emerging business and transportation technologies.We are looking for someone who will:
Establish relationships and partnerships with industry, higher education, entrepreneurs, transportation industries, auto manufacturers, and other key sectors to help drive innovation in the multimodal transportation industry focusing on autonomous approaches.
Focus on researching, developing, and implementing innovations and technologies that can connect industry, government agencies, academia, and other stakeholders to create a comprehensive, integrated strategic vision and implementation plan for bringing autonomous innovative approaches to bear.
Coordinate with Department of Transportation (State and Federal) Research Councils, the agencies of the Transportation Secretariat and other research/innovation groups with transportation expertise to review current technologies, possible applications for use of innovative technologies, and developing implementation plans and working through others to deliver outcomes for innovative technologies and approaches to:Autonomous vehicles, unmanned systems, coordinated networks, and information technology.
Expand information available through Open Data sources to help attract and grow the connected autonomous vehicle Industry and transportation information providers enhancing IT Infrastructure Partnerships, Priority Safety technologies, and strategies;
The Portfolio Director is accountable for the successful development and oversight of the sponsor portfolio work programs.
Leads the formulation and management of the sponsor portfolio strategy, including the sponsor's environmental analysis, customer value analysis and the sponsor portfolio analysis, updating these analyses regularly to ensure that they are current and relevant.
Leads the development and execution of a multi-tiered sponsor engagement strategy in partnership with the appropriate Program Divisions and Technical Centers.
Strategy : Provide leadership to the portfolio transportation team to identify major portfolio trends, thrusts, and issues, continually shaping the portfolio accordingly.
Sponsor/Stakeholder Engagement : Develop, maintain, and proactively manage sponsor and stakeholder relationships at all levels of the portfolio leadership team.
Work Program Definition and Execution : In collaboration with Partner TDs, define, develop, and execute the transportation program with objectives and outcomes addressing the most pressing challenges.
Collaboration : Ensure alignment of activities, deliverables, and outcomes within the portfolio and across other portfolios.
Communications : Ensure that transportation portfolio objectives, goals, and accomplishments are well understood by everyone associated with the portfolio and throughout all layers of the portfolio's work program.
Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following disciplines:Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering and 15 years of related experience. The candidate will demonstrate the ability to operates effectively at high levels within sponsors' and potential sponsors' organizations, recognizing and following through on opportunities in new areas and/or with new sponsors.
Significant leadership experience at a senior level with a proven track record of increasing value and impact.
Proven track record of building and maintaining trusted sponsor relationships
Candidate needs to have proven experience in one or more transportation related domains, such as cars, trucks, buses, trains, etc.
Proven track record of building effective internal and external partnerships to increase MITRE’s value and impact.
Demonstrate the highest levels of technical, management and business development skills
Thoroughly understanding of autonomous technology
Relationships with related industries for partnering and information sharing
Advanced degree in a related discipline
This position is located in McLean, Virginia, with travel requirements to other MITRE and sponsor locations (15% travel).
