Job Summary

A successful Senior Accounting Manager requires an in-depth knowledge of accounting and the ability to perform research and apply the appropriate technical accounting to MITARE's specific scenarios. This role requires independence, self-motivation, strong analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks/projects. This role requires support, collaboration and communication across MITRE. This role also requires the maintenance of strong relationships with MITRE’s internal and external auditors. This role is primarily responsible for financial reporting, regulatory reporting, technical accounting and accounting policy and control. This role is managed by the Director of International & Corporate Accounting.

Key Functions

  • Serve as the day-to-day manager for the general accounting, fixed asset accounting, and project accounting teams (team of 6). This includes activities like assigning responsibility for assigning tasks and providing guidance; reviewing timesheets; guiding career path development; providing or supporting professional development opportunities; conducting performance conversations and reviews; and communicating salary information.

  • Execute back-up plans for key functions and succession plans for key roles.

  • Manage the monthly and year-end financial reporting close processes, which includes (but is not limited to): review of financial statements, rates, journal entries, reconciliations, and bank covenants.

  • Produce accurate and timely financial statements including consolidation of international entities.

  • Oversee mid-year and year-end activities, which includes (but is not limited to): coordinating reserve & write-off meetings; communicating year end guidance / calendars for annual financial statement close; managing reviewing actuarial valuations for reasonableness; managing the timely completion of deliverables for the financial statement audit.

  • Recommend and implement process improvements to simplify, standardize and streamline accounting and financial reporting activities while maintaining strong controls.

  • Build and maintain a superior control environment.

  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Audit Principles and internal controls.

  • Manage the following audits to ensure that our auditors are obtaining information required timely:

  • Audit of MITRE Corporation financial statements

  • Audit of the Singapore branch financial statements

  • Audit of Uniform Guidance

  • Assist in preparing the annual Form 990 tax return.

  • Support international tax filings and statutory reporting requirements.

  • Perform ad-hoc accounting research and provide guidance across MITRE

  • Assist in special projects.

  • Build strong relationships with internal customers in order to become a trusted business partner.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 10 years of relevant work experience (of which 5 years of experience in government contracting and 5 years of experience managing people)

  • CPA

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting

  • Financial reporting and accounting experience working for a publicly traded company

  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP

Preferred Qualifications

  • Audit experience with a Big 4

  • Financial control and accounting experience in a company with multiple legal entities (domestic and international)

  • Experience with Oracle or WorkDay

  • Experience implementing financial accounting systems

Minimum Education/Experience

  • BS and 10 years of related experience including 2 years of leadership experience.
