As part of the Facilities Management Office this position will oversee the reliability, functionality and efficiency of all existing mechanical systems. Provide recommendations, design and direction on upgrades of current systems.
Responsible for HVAC system design review, installation and reliability management.
Maintaining knowledge of HVAC system capacities and load levels and proper operation in McLean, Bedford and Sites.
Know the MITRE HVAC, plumbing and fire sprinkler systems.
Develop emergency contingency programs for each system
Be an advocate for MITRE in the design and development of HVAC, plumbing and fire sprinkler systems in our new buildings and renovation of existing spaces.
Enhance overall reliability and functionality of the HVAC systems and promote best practices among the MITRE lab administration community.
Remain current with building codes and standards as they evolve or change. Be able to recommend industry best practices.
Certify/stamp small HVAC drawings in order to get mechanical trade permits from the county.
Assess performance of Facilities Maintenance provider.
Participate in Capital Planning/recommend scheduled replacement of capital equipment.
Perform design, review and commissioning for new and renovated facilities.
Develop commissioning protocols and direct related exercises to ensure building HVAC systems are performing per design.
Oversee testing and commissioning of all critical infrastructure and associated systems.
Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office suite products, including Project & Excel
Experience and knowledgeable with AutoCAD and Autodesk mechanical
Familiarity with commercial building systems
Understand and interpret construction drawings and documents
Knowledgeable in ASHRE standards
Knowledgeable in BAS systems (Metasys) and able to use advanced features to improve operation and conserve energy, and one or more of the preferred qualifications.
Ability to troubleshoot HVAC problems in emergency situations
Familiarity with AutoCAD
Apply technical knowledge to practical applications
Able to communicate with and mentor mechanics regarding desired philosophy of critical systems management
Demonstrated good business and technical writing skills
Troubleshoot HVAC equipment and controls
Able to review drawings prepared by consulting engineers, provide constructive critique, and offer value engineering options
Must be able to organize and track multiple tasks
Able to interface/collaborate/work in a team environment with MITRE Electrical Engineers, Project Managers and End-Users.
SME, Professional Engineer (PE) Registration in Virginia, 8 – 10 years’ experience in Critical Environment Facilities such as hospitals, data centers or 24x7 office or industrial facilities.
