This position will support Air Traffic Management (ATM) definition and evolution planning efforts for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). You will work within an existing team of system engineers, analysts and IT personnel to help the FAA define and implement the future operations concepts for ATM, Enroute and Traffic Flow Management and supporting capabilities. You will interact with the FAA sponsor, other contractors and subject matter experts.
This challenging position will focus on data analysis and modeling of weather-affected aviation and transportation operations, along with the weather observation and prediction capabilities used for guidance and decision support in within the ATM domain. The ideal candidate will require him/or her to leverage their strong analytical and problem solving skills, coupled with excellent written and oral communication skills. You will work independently and within a team environment along with leveraging your prior experience working with and interpreting meteorological data and using your prior analysis experience using COTS analytical products. At times you will utilize your ability to write custom software to accomplish necessary analytical tasks.
Analyze current and future weather observation and forecast information in the context of weather-affected aviation and transportation operations
Identify and assess the feasibility of new or advanced weather or weather mitigation capabilities intended
B.S. or M.S. in Operations Research, Applied Meteorology or related engineering, mathematics or science degree
Experience working with and interpreting meteorological data
Experience with R, MATLAB, or VBA for statistical analysis and modeling
Experience with databases (SQL, etc.)
- BS and 3 years related experience
M.S. or PhD or equivalent in Operations Research, Meteorology or related engineering, mathematics or science
Experience with Python and Java
Familiarity with meteorological observation and forecast data (including radar data, GRIB2 and netCDF data form)
