MITRE’s Cognitive Science & Artificial Intelligence Department, in the Information Technology Tech Center, seeks an Administrative Assistant to serve as primary administrative support to the department management team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing department-level administrative support duties. He/She will interact with department management and technical staff, other Administrative Assistants, MITRE managers and leaders. The position requires an individual who is comfortable managing a broad range of administrative duties.

Key functions include:

  • Schedule and organize meetings

  • Maintain department leadership calendars

  • Attend meetings and conferences when required, and provide set-up assistance for teleconferences and VTCs

  • Set up and maintain departmental files and records

  • Coordinate phone coverage and accurately relay messages for division leadership when needed

  • Track and purchase items

  • Reconcile the department MITRE Purchase Card monthly

  • Track, manage, and coordinate department management approval for several department budget line items

  • Coordinate admin coverage for the division Tech Director and division departments when needed

  • Provide administrative support to other MITRE organizations as needed and appropriate

  • Work closely with the division admin team to promote a smooth-running and high-quality division administrative team



Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Department of Defense clearance


The position requires an individual who is collaborative, friendly, and approachable.


Strong work tenure: Five years of experience supporting senior management;

AA or BA with five years of related experience.

Specific skills include:

  • Highly proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and SharePoint

  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and processes quickly

  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively and tactfully with colleagues at every level of the organization

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential/sensitive information

  • A strong teamwork ethos, maturity, initiative, and dependability

  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate needs and respond proactively

  • Demonstrated ability to be extremely effective independently requiring little to no supervision
