Systems Engineer, Sensors and Threat Assessment


MITRE’s Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Portfolio seeks an experienced Systems Engineer to join a dynamic team performing system-of-system assessments on behalf of MDA’s Directorate of Engineering. As a MITRE engineer in this role, you will inform and develop Sensor and Threat System assessments. This opportunity entails analyzing and assessing data from multiple test venues and culminating results to inform the MDA Director of system capabilities and limitations for planned system upgrades and additions; conducting research regarding emerging technology; developing assessment plans (including conditions to test); and processing analysis results into solutions that inform the warfighter about a system’s ability to fulfill Combatant Command (COCOM) level missions.

As member of MITRE’s System Assessment team, you will:

- Lead multiple efforts to fulfill the MDA System Assessment Mission to educate MDA stakeholders on the capabilities and limitations of the Ballistic Missile Defense System to enable well-informed decisions by ensuring the system under assessment is correctly characterized, capabilities and limitations are accurately documented and understood, and provide recommendations on additions and improvements to the Missile Defense System

- Conduct technical interchanges with threat engineering and intelligence teams in the areas of research, test design, and analysis

- Independently evaluate the performance of complex missile defense radars in a fast paced, dynamic environment while ensuring technical rigor and timely delivery

- Perform comprehensive evaluations of test results from various test venues (e.g., flight, Hardware in the Loop (HWIL), and element-level) and synthesize results into assessment deliverables

- Develop assessment requirements based on research of element-level design details, agency commitments, and warfighter priorities in order to create objective evidence necessary to identify performance in various conditions


Minimum Qualifications

- Team-oriented work style to succeed in an engineering group environment to research, plan and execute quality assessments

- Engineering degree and eight years’ related experience

- Department of Defense (DoD) Radar system or missile system threat experience

- Experience communicating technical topics, to include recommendations, to government executives (Senior Executive Service and Flag Officers)

- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multiple organizations to achieve comprehensive results that inform technical decisions

- Active DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in:

- Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) elements and technologies

- Radar System Engineering and Design

- Radar Signal Processing

- Application of threat missile system technologies and strategies to evaluate defense capabilities

- System-level test and evaluation methodologies and test design solutions

- DoD sensors or weapon system acquisitions

- Delivery of new capability fielding recommendations to specified COCOMs
