The Los Angeles MITRE Program Division P430 and the MITRE Air Force Space Portfolio have a unique opportunity for a project leader to work directly with the Space and Missile Systems Center Remote Sensing Directorate (SMC/RS) sponsor and to plan and execute the SMC Remote Sensing project.

The Project Leader will provide technical leadership to a wide variety of technical activities to facilitate support on matters pertaining to the SMC/RS strategic planning and roles/responsibilities. Additionally, this Project Leader will lead technical teams and be expected to interact with Air force, contractor and other FFRDC partners.

Knowledge of OPIR programs (Ex. Defense Support Program (DSP), the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS), Wide Field of View (WFOV), data exploitation, and weather systems is preferred. Tasks will require expertise in exploitation of OPIR sensor data.

Tasks will also require application of supporting expertise in systems security engineering for program protection (including software assurance, supply chain risk management, anti-tamper, etc.), mission assurance and cybersecurity engineering in collaboration with SMC’s Directorates and Program Offices. Additionally, tasks will require application of expertise in enterprise architectures and integration of software intensive systems and programs utilizing agile development disciplines.

Understanding of Industry best practices, experience with complex space software systems, and evaluation of contractor proposals desired. Also desire in experience with independent readiness reviews for acquisition milestones.

Project Leader scope includes:

  • Identify and manage project risks (e.g., delivery, funding, etc.) and oversee project staffing by collaborating with Program Division and Technical Center leadership across MITRE to ensure that the right technical, programmatic and management skills are available.

  • Establishing appropriate project/task/deliverable reviews and oversight to ensure technical quality, product delivery and impactful work.

  • Prepare and deliver all reports on time.

  • Contribute to technical assessment, architecture, integration, and general systems engineering design and solutions.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS or equivalent and 8 years of related experience

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Required Qualifications:

  • Self-starter and possess broad system engineering expertise related to military and/or space systems. Experience in (or working with SMEs) in enterprise architecture, software development, acquisition, cybersecurity/program protection, and IT systems.

  • Obtain and maintain a Top Secret level security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expected to lead the customer engagement, and therefore, must possess excellent communications and written skills, and the ability to work well with Air Force, contractor, and other FFRDC personnel.
