This position will have the chosen candidate providing operations research, systems analysis and systems engineering leadership to both the U. S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM)/J2 and the JIOC-South at Miami, FL. The candidate must be a multi-disciplined system engineer with experience in system/software life cycle development and system integration. The candidate for this position will apply their skills to lead and collaborate with MITRE portfolio managers and researchers to work on USSOUTHCOM-specific capability gaps.
Key Functions for this position will be to:
- Work closely with J2 senior staffs to conduct requirements analyses and develop strategies in support of SOUTHCOM missions.
- Specify and analyze requirements for new systems to satisfy SOUTHCOM’s Integrated Priority List (IPL).
- Identify, integrate, and assess new technologies and procedures to address USSOUTHCOM-specific capability gaps.
The successful candidate will work directly with the sponsor and users in a team setting, in the sponsor’s environment.
BS and 5 years of related experience or MS and 3 years of related experience or PhD and 1 year of related experience
MS in Systems Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, other related quantitative field, or an engineering/scientific field.
The applicant should have three plus years relevant experience or operational experience with Combatant Commands' mission and staff processes.
Must be flexible, adaptive, and can think on his/her own.
Strong writing, communication, and briefing skills, the ability to work both independently and as a team member, and the ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks and deadlines.
Effectively communicate IT capabilities and intelligence business processes between the IT and analytic communities.
Able to work in a loosely structured, unclear work environment.
Experience working in a mixed military, government, and contractor environment.
Understanding the COCOMs mission and staff processes.
Ability to work closely with sponsor management and technical staff with little supervision.
Proven ability to collaborate and work across MITRE and / or the sponsor community.
Thorough understanding of Adaptive Planning, Intelligence Campaign Planning, and Joint intelligence and operational doctrine.
Understand relationship of a COCOM’s IPL to its mission, and its IPL processes.
Understand the ways in which a system-under-assessment contributes (or doesn’t) to COCOM’s IPL and mission.
