MITRE is looking to expand its Charlottesville cloud team. In this role you will provide architectural and hands on support to critical customer problems in cloud computing, DevOps and Security Engineering. This position involves direct hands-on design and development of various cloud-based solutions, often with iterative build and refinement cycles, working closely with government leadership to define process and shape new capabilities. As an expert technical advisor to the government, this position also involves analysis of technical and mission tradeoffs with respect to cloud capabilities.

The candidate will have deep technical knowledge of cloud technologies, specifically Amazon Web Services (AWS) and how to engineer systems to run in the cloud. The ideal candidate will be able to design complete cloud-based systems based on mission needs, cost parameters, performance requirements and be able to document, communicate, and justify engineering choices to senior government leaders.


  • Explore proof-of-concept prototypes and technical designs using cloud technologies.

  • Cloud component provisioning, hardening and documentation

  • Expert with one or more commercial cloud offerings (AWS, AZURE, Google Cloud, etc).

  • Assess software systems for potential migration to cloud environments.

  • Help sponsors integrate and migrate software systems to cloud environments.

  • Participate in the development of emerging cloud engineering practices.

  • Maintain currency in cloud engineering practices; working knowledge of agile development practices.

  • Develop and implement data access controls model

  • Security Engineering, security automation, and continuous monitoring

  • Support execution of the Risk Management Framework


Preferred Qualifications: Deep experience with AWS design, development, security, and/or operations; One or more of the following: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, Developer, SysOps Administrator; Security Certification (ISACA, ISC2, SANS)

Minimum Qualifications:BS Degree, TS/SCI clearance, and 5 years related experience; strong working knowledge of AWS cloud platform; on-site with sponsor 80% time
