The Magnolia Project is part of P581’s DOJ Cyber Portfolio and supports our sponsor with a variety of technical tasks in the area of cyber security and systems engineering. This project offers the opportunity to dive into complex, and rewarding work with high visibility and potential. As an experienced Security Engineer, you will work side-by-side with members of the Law Enforcement and Intelligence Communities and to leverage your experience and skills to have a direct impact on national security. In this role, you’ll spearhead an effort to evaluate a Sponsor division-wide security program and provide recommendations for consolidating IT systems event management and incident response across multiple independent systems. Work will be performed in Chantilly, VA but may require some local or long-distance travel.

Key Functions
  • Spearhead the evaluation of a division-wide security program aimed at consolidating IT systems event management and incident response across multiple independent systems.

  • Gather, analyze, and evaluate security data from a variety of platforms, to include: Windows, Linux, web and application services, as well as network equipment such as switches and firewalls.

  • Executes tools to evaluate IT systems as well as provide technical approach to the Sponsor on what tools or custom scripts are required or appropriate for specific situations.

  • Familiarity with Federal IT Security standards such as FISMA (Federal Information Security Management Act) in order to focus on the technical implementation of those requirements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Experienced engineer familiar with risk analysis and vulnerability assessments.

  • Demonstrated expert in the design, build out, and deployment of at least one SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) platform (Splunk/ArcSight preferred)

  • Knowledge and experience in SOC (Security Operations Center) management and operations.

  • Ability to summarize and present findings to senior management as well as able to communicate with systems experts at a highly technical level.

  • Demonstrated experience with system hardening (Windows, Linux, application platforms)

  • Experience conducting vulnerability assessment, risk analysis mitigation strategies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent communications skills

  • High tolerance for ambiguity

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS with 3 years Experience
