Senior Administrative Assistant (Polygraph Clearance)


We are currently seeking an Administrative Assistant in MITRE’s National Space Portfolio to directly support the Department Head's day-to-day requirements and fast-paced Department of approximately 55 personnel. This position requires a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.

Provide administrative assistance and support to project leaders, department management, and staff that support the portfolio in several different geographic locations in the Northern Virginia area.

Communicate effectively; interpret and apply MITRE policies; maintain records accurately and reliably; organize and prioritize work independently; demonstrate initiative and follow-through on a broad range of administrative duties; exercise good judgment; track deadlines; answer phones; prepare documentation and compose correspondence; and schedule and provide administrative support for all staff, Department, and Division meetings and events. Demonstrate good interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and a professional manner in a friendly and fast-moving environment.


  • Key Functions:

  • Coordinate and arrange meetings required at the MITRE Chantilly location. Carry out all necessary arrangements required to support a range of meetings to include reserving rooms, connecting teleconferences and video teleconferences, arranging travel of attendees, overseeing catering, coordinating with security, and providing administrative support as needed during these meetings.

  • Work effectively with other Department and Division administrative staff in P530 to provide seamless support.

  • Perform routine administrative tasks within the Department to include the following:

Working with staff to schedule interviews, drafting routine correspondence and completing internal forms; providing seamless support across the entire Department and Division as needed; maintaining Department records, organization charts, program contact information, and miscellaneous files; arranging travel and making reservations as requested; providing calendar support for the Department Head and others across the Department as requested; preparing Employee Expense Vouchers (EEVs) and Local Travel Vouchers (LTVs); answering telephones; distributing mail; arranging for office moves; processing time sheets as needed; preparing documents to specified standards; proofreading and distributing documents and reports; monitoring Department absences and time reports, patch updates, and mandatory training; onboarding of new employees with our program coordinator; updating and maintaining Department SharePoint site.

Interacting effectively with senior government officials and MITRE personnel in a cooperative and professional manner along with performing as a team-player.

Working collaboratively with other Department staff on site, as well as the Chantilly site leader.

Demonstrating exceptional communications and interpersonal skills in frequent interactions with a variety of MITRE and customer personnel.


Required Qualifications:

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint.

  • Be detail-oriented.

  • Excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation, editing, phone etiquette, organization, and communication skills.

  • High school diploma or equivalent, TS/SCI clearance with polygraph, and 3 years of experience the equivalent in job-relevant work experience.
