The Operational Innovation & Transformation Department seeks
software developers with experience in cloud technologies, information security, and Development and Operations (DevOps) strategies. Candidates should have experience with the design and development of various cloud-based solutions, DevOps, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS). The focus of this work is to bring transformational capabilities to our sponsors through prototyping, experimentation, and deep outreach to the operational community.
The selected individual will be responsible for designing and developing application prototypes, reference implementations, and other operationally relevant software in support of MITRE’s Department of Defense (DoD) sponsors, particularly the United States Air Force (USAF). To that end, the individual will be working with both experienced MITRE engineers and government representatives. Duties will include proposing and architecting software to work towards a Continuous-Integration/Continuous-Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline that enhances the full lifecycle of infrastructure, as well as identifying and implementing process improvements to make agencies more efficient.
This work is a critical segment of the department’s overall work program which spans mission-focused experimentation for rapid capabilities innovation, assessment, and acquisition; systems engineering for operational/active warfighters; and mission-centric software/system product lines focused on dismount/operator-centric systems and software/system foundations such as tactical data interoperability, mobile computing, and enterprise IT modernization. The department’s key technical concentration areas include software engineering and development, cloud and DevOps, and network and communications engineering, all grounded in strong systems engineering fundamentals and significant operational domain expertise.
Design and develop cloud-based software solutions to support Continuous-Integration/Continuous-Delivery capability pipelines
Analyze cloud infrastructures and recommend improvements for performance gains and/or cost efficiencies
Excellent communication, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to thrive in a diverse team environment consisting of MITRE colleagues, project sponsors, government contractors, and military personnel.
Expertise in the software engineering lifecycle, virtualization, cloud computing, system administration, and scripting languages.
Technical knowledge of fundamental concepts of component provisioning, network design, system hardening, and data access controls.
At least 1 - 3 years of experience in IT with a broad range of exposure, including cloud computing, continuous integration, automated testing, and deployments
Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Service (AWS), Microsoft Azure, VMWare, and OpenStack
Experience with containers and automated configuration management tools such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible, and Amazon Cloud Formation scripts
Experience with object-oriented and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Ruby, Java, and Go
Ability to analyze cloud infrastructure and recommend improvements for performance gains and/or cost efficiencies
Familiarity with Software Defined Networking (SDN)
Familiarity with government regulations and industry standards data security, such as NIST Special Publication 800-53 or Intelligence Community Directive 503
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or similar field.
