Working side by side with MITRE’s Department of Justice mission partners, the successful candidate will assist in solving their most difficult technical challenges. The candidate will provide technical expertise and project management in support of biometric technologies. Support areas include research initiatives, various biometric modalities, system pilots and prototypes, software tool development, data analysis, and systems engineering. This position can be in Clarksburg, WV or McLean, VA. Security Clearance Level Top Secret Key Functions Work in a dynamic team environment to assist in biometric system prototyping and image quality processing. The candidate will engage in prototype development and installation, software tool development, standards conformance, and system integration. Additionally, the candidate will collaborate and participate in activities to ensure knowledge sharing and integration across the team and provide support to the government by applying strong systems engineering and technology area knowledge to identify, prioritize, and solve difficult problems. Required Education/Experience: BS and 1 year experience or MS Desired Education/Experience BS in Computer Systems Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related biometric, IT or Computer Science degree. Required Skills: The ideal candidate will be a proactive self-starter with excellent organization skills who works well in a team environment with multiple priorities. The candidate will demonstrate the following talents: • Development experience in Java/J2EE • Strong knowledge of Object oriented design concepts and data structures • Familiarity developing: -Transactional business logic -SQL/Relational database interaction including Object-relational Mapping -Java application frameworks • Proficiency in test driven development and utilizing testing frameworks • Proficiency with build tools (Maven/Ant) & version control software (Subversion) • Comfort working in Linux (Red Hat, CentOS) • Scripting knowledge (bash, perl, python) • Familiarity and interest in prototyping, testing and reporting • Familiarity with networked and database applications Desired Skills Expertise in algorithm development/optimization, efficient data structures, time/space complexity • Experience with biometric systems, application interfaces and middleware • Image quality and research and performance/conformance testing • Ability to support and interpret standards/conformance, error analysis, and applied research • Persistent storage and distributed systems • Image handling/processing metrics and functions Travel Statement *This position will require overnight travel up to 10 % of the time.
