The Airport/Airspace Analysis, Model and Design department has an ongoing commitment to conduct quantitative risk assessments, such as the analysis of aviation events involving loss of required separation, and the quantitative risk calculations associated with the various hazards identified in the runway and terminal environment. The individual will be involved in quantitative risk modeling and simulation, the analysis of hazards associated with proposed operations and changes to existing operations in the airport runway environment, and the development of data visualization tools that simplify the presentation of complex safety metrics.


  • Key Functions

- Assist in analyzing historical and simulated operational data to support decisions that have implications for aviation safety risk and mitigation strategies.

- Help to draw conclusions from data and clearly and concisely articulate key findings in both written and verbal form.

- Apply basic data analysis skills: exploratory data analysis, time series analysis, distribution fitting, linear regression

- Assist in developing data visualization products that simplify the presentation of complex safety metrics


Bachelor's degree in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, and other physical science/engineering fields

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills

-MS Office

-Data analysis and visualization

4-6 years of experience preferred

-Master's and above would be welcome in an aviation related field: Operations Research, Applied Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, and other physical science/engineering fields

-Experience in the field of aviation safety is highly desired but not required.

-Modeling and stochastic risk analysis techniques such as Monte Carlo simulation

-Computer programming in MATLAB, Java, R, SQL

-Familiarity with statistical packages, e.g. JMP, Minitab, or SPSS

-Familiarity with big data applications, e.g. Apache Hadoop
