Key Functions Provide communications network systems engineering task leadership and technical support on multiple projects at different phases of development. Interact with users to develop and analyze operational requirements, allocate to system technical requirements, and assess contractor network designs. Develop network topology designs, conduct traffic analysis and network capacity planning, and analyze end-to-end system performance, cost, and risk. Conduct detailed modeling and simulation to assess network performance, conduct trades on alternate approaches, and advise on technology investments. Develop migration strategies to create a common network infrastructure across missions and guide the development of future communications networks. Translate between non technical requirements developers and the technical acquisition communities.
Required Education/Experience: BS and 5 years of related experience or MS and 3 years of related experience or PhD and 1 year of related experience
Desired Education/Experience MS or equivalent in electrical engineering, mathematics, or physics with 10+ years experience in task leadership, network analysis, design, or development of large complex communications networks. MS preferred. Position requires experience in wired and wireless network design and analysis, network technology, protocol design and analysis, network management, and network hardware development.
Required Skills: Requires demonstrated technical skills and senior leadership experience to understand complex technical networking problems, define potential solutions to these problems, and conduct in depth technical analyses and assessments of the network solutions. Requires strong understanding of mobile ad-hoc networks, static networks, protocols at the data link, network, and transport layer, and management of these networks. Requires ability to place results of technical studies into a systems engineering context.
Desired Skills Excellent interpersonal skills required for interaction with customers, project leaders, team members, and other government agencies. Proficiency in written communications skills also required. Must work collaboratively within a team, provide task leadership, and also work independently, as the situation requires. Proficiency in computer analysis and simulation tools preferred.
Travel Statement *This position will require overnight travel up to 20 % of the time.
