Work as a part of a government team to identify, plan, prioritize, lead, direct, and evaluate biometrics research initiatives for law enforcement. As Director of Biometrics Research, well-versed in multiple biometric modalities, you will participate in the selection, engineering, integration, implementation and operation of biometric systems and programs. You will draw upon your own subject matter expertise in biometrics modalities as you plan and evaluate research initiatives and provide senior level advice to government executive decision makers.

Key Functions As Director of Biometrics Research, your specific responsibilities will be as follows:

•Assess the current and future use of both established and emerging biometric modalities.

•Identify, prioritize, and direct required research by managing and balancing a diversified portfolio.

•Provide technical and strategic guidance in support the agency’s biometrics portfolio.

•Provide advice and technical recommendations pertaining to biometric devices, algorithms, modalities, formats, protocols, and architecture.

•Plan, direct, and develop technical whitepapers and journal articles to support the organization’s mission space.

•Work with other members of the Intelligence Community to leverage their research efforts.

•Explore innovative ways to influence and leverage outside funding.

•Serve as liaison with internal biometrics researchers and experts and as the agency’s interface with other Intelligence Community partners for biometrics.

•Support headquarters liaison activities in the Washington, DC area. Under the right circumstances, this position could be located in the Washington, DC area with significant (50%) overnight travel within 250 miles.
Required Education/Experience: BS and 7 years of related experience or MS and 4 years of related experience or PhD and 2 years of related experience
Desired Education/Experience •Ph.D. in a biometric-related scientific discipline. Candidates without a doctoral degree, but otherwise exceptionally well qualified, may be considered favorably.

•Ten years of experience in the biometrics field.
Required Skills: •Demonstrated experience in research and applied biometrics work for the U.S. Government.

•Understanding of the government and academic biometrics communities.

Key Functions Work in a dynamic team environment to assist in biometric system prototyping and image quality processing. The candidate will engage in prototype development and installation, software tool development, standards conformance, and system integration. Additionally, the candidate will collaborate and participate in activities to ensure knowledge sharing and integration across the team and provide support to the government by applying strong systems engineering and technology area knowledge to identify, prioritize, and solve difficult problems.
Required Education/Experience: BS and 1 year experience or MS

Required Skills: The successful candidate will have a strong background in software development, database management, and systems engineering. The candidate must be familiar with developing in PERL. The candidate must also have a working knowledge of MYSQL.
