MITRE seeks a Software Engineer to apply software design and development expertise to various projects of a multi-disciplinary nature. Individuals will design integrated solutions to support people, process, and technology challenges for government clients.

Key Functions The successful candidate will work as part of a top-notch MITRE/government team developing web applications. The candidate will support and execute sponsor-funded research and development activities, conduct product evaluations and provide technical guidance to sponsors. The work will be performed in a state-of-the-art environment at a sponsor location in support of mission requirements. (FS01-RD)
Required Education/Experience: BS and 1 year experience or MS
Desired Education/Experience B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 5 years of related experience with web application design. Security clearance strongly preferred, but will accept candidates who are willing to undergo the clearance process.
Required Skills: Systems engineering with a foundation in analysis, system design, lifecycle development, and deployment.
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team environment, and possess a strong work ethic.
Demonstrate outstanding problem solving capabilities, creativity and an innovative spirit.
Strength in systems design and architecture, including development of solutions.
Strong ability to balance requirements for system security, performance, and capabilities with desired delivery timelines
Excellent written and oral communication skills; experience developing and presenting program-related and technical presentations.
Experience with the design and development of secure, access-controlled, collaborative and information sharing environments.
Experience w/system transition/migration planning and execution.
Desired Skills Desired skills include some combination of the following:
Knowledge of hands-on experience with Internet technologies such as HTTP, AJAX, XML, web services, and related emerging web standards & technologies.
Advanced Perl coding skills and experience with Java, C/C++, and/or other modern programming languages
Windows programming
Ability to work and communicate in a team environment
Experience with team-oriented development projects
Development of web applications and associated large scale databases
Knowledge of Open Source software tools & projects.
Strong database design skills and experience with SQL query optimizations, stored procedures, and rapid software development in a high-energy environment.
Experience with Geospatial data
Experience with large data sets/analysis
Ability to work with customers/stakeholders on technical issues
Ability to adapt to changing requirements
System administrator level of knowledge for Unix (Linux, Solaris) and/or Windows operating systems
Expertise in principles of object-oriented software design and programming.
Ability to write and present technical material in the form of proposals, white papers, technical reports, and presentations.
Travel Statement *This position will require overnight travel up to xx % of the time.
